What AI-powered support reveals about what learners and staff really need

‍Presenters: Willem van Valkenburg (Director, TU Delft Learning for Life Centre, and 2020 SURF Education Award winner) and Tosh Polak (Head of Product, LearnWise)

TU Delft Learning for Life supports a global community of lifelong learners with a small team. In this session, Willem van Valkenburg shares what happened after deploying LiLLian, an AI assistant that answers learner questions directly from institutional content. Alongside the answers, the team gained a live view of where their knowledge base falls short, surfacing gaps they could act on without going looking for them, to the benefit of enrolled students, the student assistants staffing support, and the lecturers who use the system only occasionally. The session covers what topic analysis has taught the team, how it is reshaping their knowledge base, and plans to extend that support directly into the learning environment for students and faculty.
