SURF Onderwijsdagen 2026

Vue d'ensemble
What is LearnWise showing at SURF Onderwijsdagen 2026?
At stand 16, LearnWise is showing how AI extends student support and faculty operations across the platforms Dutch institutions already run. We are also presenting a joint session with TU Delft Learning for Life on putting AI to work responsibly, with educators in control.
The question running through this year's Onderwijsdagen, who does what between AI and people, is the question LearnWise is built to answer. LearnWise is the AI layer for higher and further education that extends what your existing platforms already do well, working alongside Canvas, D2L Brightspace, Moodle, Blackboard, and Microsoft Teams rather than replacing them. It brings four capabilities into one governed layer:
- AI Student Tutor for course-aligned support at any hour, in 107 languages
- AI Campus Support for accurate, student-facing answers across campus services
- AI Feedback & Grader that drafts feedback for faculty to review and approve
- AI Ops Assistant that helps faculty and staff with routine work, always under human direction and institutional controls
LearnWise is certified to ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II and supports FERPA and GDPR, which matters for SURF member institutions evaluating AI against sector standards. Across 200+ institutions and 2.5M+ learners, it is built to widen support while keeping human judgement at the centre.

Session: What AI-powered support reveals about what learners and staff really need
Time: 11 November 2026, 15:25–15:55, Tango 2
Presenters: Tosh Polak (Head of Product, LearnWise) with Willem van Valkenburg (Director, TU Delft Learning for Life Centre, and 2020 SURF Education Award winner)
TU Delft Learning for Life supports a global community of lifelong learners with a small team. In this session, Willem van Valkenburg shares what happened after deploying LiLLian, an AI assistant that answers learner questions directly from institutional content. Alongside the answers, the team gained a live view of where their knowledge base falls short, surfacing gaps they could act on without going looking for them, to the benefit of enrolled students, the student assistants staffing support, and the lecturers who use the system only occasionally. The session covers what topic analysis has taught the team, how it is reshaping their knowledge base, and plans to extend that support directly into the learning environment for students and faculty.
