As class sizes grow and workloads increase, traditional grading and feedback can’t keep pace with the needs of today’s diverse learners. Students need timely, personalized feedback and adaptive learning opportunities, but faculty often lack the tools to deliver this at scale. AI in education offers a promising solution, but the question remains: how can institutions adopt AI responsibly, without disrupting existing LMS workflows or teaching practices?
This was one of the guiding questions we explored during our recent Brightspace webinar, where we showcased AI-powered assessment and feedback with Lumi Feedback and Lumi Tutor, powered by LearnWise AI. Educators and edtech leaders from across Europe joined the discussion. Here are the key takeaways.
Key Learnings from the Brightspace Webinar
1. The Feedback Crisis is Real, and Growing
Educators are under more pressure than ever to deliver personalized, timely feedback at scale, but with fewer resources. The result? Faculty burnout, inconsistent feedback quality, and lower student satisfaction. This is driving demand for AI feedback systems and automated grading AI in higher education.
2. Lumi Feedback Scales Without Sacrificing Quality
During the live demo, participants saw how Lumi Feedback, powered by LearnWise AI, helps institutions:
- Generate high-quality, rubric-aligned feedback in Brightspace
- Customize tone, length, and specificity to match learning outcomes
- Maintain full control over all AI-generated grading suggestions
By integrating directly into Brightspace LMS workflows, Lumi Feedback streamlines assessment, reduces administrative burden, and improves teaching consistency—all while keeping instructors in control.
3. Lumi Tutor Supports the Student Lifecycle
We also introduced Lumi Tutor, LearnWise’s AI tutor for students, designed to live inside Brightspace. Lumi Tutor offers 24/7 personalized academic support by:
- Summarizing course content and providing practice activities
- Creating personalized study exercises like quizzes, fill-in-the-blank, and flashcards
- Enhancing student engagement and improving retention
- Reducing the workload on academic support staff
Participants valued Lumi Tutor as a student success AI platform that complements educators and strengthens the student engagement platform already in place.
4. Human-Centered AI is Non-Negotiable
Throughout the session, we emphasized that human-centered AI is at the heart of every LearnWise tool. Faculty are always in control of grading and assessment. Student data privacy is safeguarded through FERPA- and GDPR-compliant AI systems. Most importantly, AI is built to support, not replace, relationships between learners and educators.
